Meet Eloise & Her Boys!

In March of this year a kind and caring person saw a post on the Bates/Cass County pet page about an 8 month old puppy that had been left behind when the family had moved away.  Relatives had named the puppy Hazel and were feeding her but they were unable to keep her so they were really hoping someone could provide a good home for the puppy.  Allen Brooks, with House of Hound, was contacted and went out there to see if he could help.  While Allen was there checking on Hazel, he saw another dog that was obviously pregnant. He learned that this dog had also been left behind when the owner moved. Allen was told all about Momma and how she had puppies before, at least 3 litters. Momma and her puppies were treated terribly by her owners and she was constantly stressed over her puppies.  Even though Allen had only gone out there to rescue Hazel he could not leave Momma there so he took both of them in hopes of helping both animals find safe haven.

Both Hazel and Momma were taken to the vet where Allen learned that Momma was heartworm positive...not good news!  Treatment for heartworm disease is costly and to complicate matters, since Momma was pregnant, she couldn't be treated until after she delivered her puppies.  Allen found a great home for Hazel but was not having much luck finding a home for a pregnant dog.  Allen reached out to a friend and his wife, the Jackson family, and asked if they could take Momma, and they did.  They welcomed Momma into their home and took great care of her, making her comfortable in anticipation of the delivery of her puppies.   Meanwhile a lot of people were getting to know Momma's story and were wanting to help.  A Go-Fund-Me page was created to raise money for Momma's heartworm treatment and the Facebook "Momma Love" community rallied around her holding raffles to raise money as well.

On March 18th, the big day arrived and Momma had her puppies.  She and the puppies stayed with the Jackson family for several weeks getting lots of love and care. However, after awhile, it was decided that Momma should be moved to another foster home.  Momma had become very protective of her puppies and was acting aggressive towards the other dogs in the home.  Furry Kids' Refuge was contacted and agreed to take Momma and her puppies into their care.

Momma and the puppies got settled into their new foster home and Momma was given the name Eloise after a beloved Aunt.  The puppies were all given names beginning with the letter "E."  Fast forward several weeks and Momma and the puppies are doing great....take a look!
